The last time James ever saw Regulus was in the middle of a battle. It was only for a second. He saw the familiar dark curls, that he could never forget. And then Regulus turned around and James could see the fire in those stormy eyes. One second, he was there and one he was running somewhere else. They were already broken up by then. They both picked their sides. Regulus took the mark and James joined the Order. The war split them up. It was the first time he saw Regulus after two years and also the last time ever.

Several months after this battle one horrible morning James read the article in Daily Prophet and his word crushed down. Because Regulus was pronounced dead. His Regulus. His star. Was gone. They were already broken up but somehow James wished he could save him. That he would make him change his mind and run away with him exactly as they talked about. But Regulus was gone, and James was left alone shattered.

He still feels the smoke of that battle in his nose. He still sees those beautiful eyes. He still misses him.

That battle was the last time he saw Regulus until now. And he isn't sure if it's not a dream. He was woken up by the knock on his door. It had to be only someone he knows because of the wards. When he rushed to open the door in fear that someone is hurt his heart stopped.

Because here he is. Regulus. Standing at his door. Looking exhausted and beaten up. But breathing. Regulus. Breathing. On his doorstep. And it doesn't make sense.

“Hey. I...” Regulus says and oh how James missed his voice. “I'm sorry to wake you. I need a place to stay, and you were the only one I could think of.” Regulus says fidgeting with his hands nervously. James isn't sure what to do. His brain didn't yet catch up. “I did something and well...”

“They said you were dead,” James whispers because that's the only thought in his mind.

“Yeah, I had to disappear for a while. I can explain. Will you let me explain, please?” Regulus pleads and James was never able to say no to him. Not really.

James watches him, trying to make his brain function. “You are more beautiful than I remember.” it's the thing he says out loud. It's probably a stupid thing to say but true, nonetheless. James slowly reaches out his hand. He needs to touch him, to know he is real. Regulus seems to understand so he holds very still.

If this is a dream James probably won't survive waking up. He can't lose him again. Not when Regulus is standing here looking real.

When his hand finally touches Regulus’ arm, and he feels the strong, hot and very alive body under his fingertips he doesn't even try to fight the tears as they spill from his eyes. He pulls the boy towards him because after almost three years he can do that.

“I'm sorry, Jamie. But I will explain everything.” Regulus whispers as he buries his face into James' chest.

i desperately need a fic from Barty’s pov that kinda follows canon BUT. Regulus and Evan dont die.

Regulus disappears after his cave adventure where he’s taken in by either the order or a completely different group, though everyone outside of it presumes he’s dead.

same kinda goes with Evan, i like to think he’d be very simular to Regulus, where he’s forced into the dark mark with no other choice. at furst he didn’t really mind it but after regulus’s “death”, he really begins to question it.

eventually him and Barty decide they should fake their deaths and run away from it all, after an important mission Evan is set on. This would be his and Alastors duel.

if you go the Order way, i would say Moody could see Evans intentions as just wanting to survive and get back to Barty so they can actually live for once, and he would take him in and there he learns Regulus is infact alive.

if you go with another group way, i havent that through so i dont actually know how to play that out but same as Regulus, he would be presumed dead by the outside world.

now i think that as soon as Voldemort was temporarily gone, Evan and Regulus would set out to find Barty, only to hear that he had died behind bars in azkaban.

now to Barty, i would still keep like his switch out with his mother, being under his father’s control and all that, but i think of it like he breaks that control sooner and possibly sets out to find Pandora, being the only person he has left (maybe im not sure about this) and then finding Evan and Regulus either with her or like along the way???

Hermione knocked on the door of the small house.

It was Dumbledore's idea- going to the house of Cassiopeia Malfoy.

But Dumbledore was gone, and now it was up to the trio.

The door opened slowly. 

A small woman with the infamous white Malfoy hair peered through the crack. "H…Hello?"

Hermione gave a small smile, "Hello. We're looking for Cassiopeia Malfoy."

The woman's eyebrows furrowed, but her voice remained quiet, "What do you want with her?"

Harry stepped forward, "We have some questions. About this." 

He held up the fake locket.

Even Ron noticed the widening of her eyes and the quickening of her breath.

"…Come in."

The woman set down four cups of hot tea and sat in one of the chairs of the living room. "How did you know I knew about this?"

Ron piped up, "Kreature mentioned you."

Her head tilted, "Kreature? Kreature talked about me?"

"Yeah," Harry chirped as he took a sip of the tea. "He said you took the locket. To keep him from getting hurt."

"That's true," she said. "I couldn't leave him like that. Everyone knows where the Black house is. I could hide it away and no one would know."

"Hide it?" Hermione asked. "What's your connection to the Blacks?"

"My connection?" She almost scoffed. "I am a Black. Somewhat."

The trio gave each other confused looks.

"Oh. You… you didn't… I didn't… um…" Her eyes widened as she looked away.

"You knew Sirius. He said that." Harry said. "Did you… marry him?"

The woman gave out a laugh, "Merlin, no!" She pushed a strand of her curly hair behind her ear. "No, no. Sirius and I were wonderful friends, yes. But, no. I was married to Regulus."

"You married Regulus Black?" Hermione asked in shock.

"I didn't know he was married," Ron quirked.

"That was the point," Cassiopeia said. "After… after James and Lily died- the day they died- Regulus and I married."

"While you were still in school?" Hermione asked again.

"Yes," she said. "We loved each other so much. But, we feared that something could happen to us, and we married that day. If we were to die, we wanted to be married first."

"That's romantic," Hermione sighed.

"That's bloody ridiculous," Ron scoffed.

"Ronald!" Hermione scorned.

"No, it was." Cassiopeia said. "But, it worked. Regulus died not long after and… I still carry the name."

"Cassiopeia… Black?" Harry asked.

She nodded. "But no one else knows that." 

She snapped out of her thoughts, "Right. The locket."

Harry gripped it in his hand, "Locket? I thought it was just a pendant."

"Oh, no." She said. "A locket. But it holds something wicked inside."

"The horcrux." Hermione chimed in.

"Yes. A horcrux. Let me… um…" She stood and disappeared into one of the side rooms of her home. They heard the sound of digging in one of the drawers before she appeared again, "Here it is."

In her hand, a horcrux of Lord Voldemort dangled delicately.

Harry held a hand up to his forehead in pain.

"It was the last thing Regulus did- getting this, I mean." She stated.

Ron held out his hand, taking the locket in his hand. "What happened exactly?"

"It's complicated. You know how to destroy a horcrux?"

Harry shrugged, "No, but we intend to find out."

"Well, if surviving in that cave is any indication, I'd say you three can figure it out."

Her words provided little comfort. 

Harry moved forward in his seat, "I know I'm simply prying but-"

"-But how did he die?" Cassiopeia guessed.

Harry nodded.

"He was drowned by the Inferi."

"He died IN the cave?" Harry asked.

She nodded, sipping her tea again. Her voice was barely heard, "yes."

The three noticed the shaking in her hands.

"Please. Tell us what happened?" Hermione pleaded.

She sighed and set the cup down, "Regulus was a calculated man. He knew what he was doing. He gained the trust of the Dark Lord. He was… he was in the higher ranks. But when Sirius was charged falsely for betraying your parents, Regulus knew the truth and vowed to find a way to kill Voldemort. He… discovered the horcruxes and… well…"

Harry nodded and opened his mouth to say more, but paused when he heard the front door open and a familiar voice ring throughout the home, "Sophie?"

Cassiopeia turned her head to look over her shoulder, "I'm in here, love."

The trio felt the air leave their lungs as Remus Lupin rounded the corner.

He paused, "Oh. Harry, Ron, Hermione. I didn't… I wasn't expecting you three."

He stepped toward the woman and placed his hands on her shoulders, "Is everything alright?"

"Yes, Harry is just here to ask about Regulus."

Remus nodded, "I see."

"I'm so sorry," Hermione chimed in. "I have to ask…"

Cassiopeia sighed as her cheeks turned red, "It's a… newer development. Things have been hard for us as of late, and… we find… solace in each other."

They both loved a Black brother.

And both of those brothers were dead.

Remus nodded and bent down to kiss the crown of her head. "I'll make supper. You three stay tonight."

"No, that's alright, Remus-" Harry said.

"-Nonsense." Remus chided. "It's dangerous for you three right now. Stay at least tonight. For me."

The three debated and communicated through their eyes before Harry nodded, "That would be lovely. Thank you."

It was relieving to Harry to finally get to see two people that truly loved each other interact in such a domestic state: making supper.

Their hands brushed occasionally and they shared a smile each time.

He couldn't help but stare.

Even as Remus pulled one of her arms towards him. She absentmindedly let him, immersed in her cooking. He pulled the sleeve of her shirt to her elbow and rubbed the faded dark mark that resided there.

She quickly turned to look at him.

He gave a sweet smile and gently kissed her wrist, then kissed her cheek.

She smiled and shooed him away.

"Why have you never mentioned her before?" Harry asked Remus after dinner.

The man sighed, "It's too complicated."

"Well, we have time." Harry scoffed.

"No, you need your rest. Sleep and we'll talk in the morning. I'll help you get anything you need for the road."

"Thank you, Remus."

"-Remus?" Cassiopeia almost whispered as she leaned against the doorframe of the kitchen.

Remus could feel himself melting at her tired eyes. "Yes, dove?"

"When are you coming to bed?"

His eyes flicked to Harry, then back to her, "In just a moment, darling, I promise."

She nodded and rubbed her eyes. She turned back to her room and muttered a quiet, "G'night, Harry."

Harry made a note of the light in Remus's eyes.

"Tell me." Remus concluded, "Did she tell you what you needed to know?"

Harry shrugged, "I mean…. I still don't know how to destroy it, but I have it now, and that's all I needed from her."

Remus nodded, and pulled his lips into a thin line in thought.

"I'm sorry," Harry piped up, "about Regulus. That must have been hard for her."

"You've no idea," Remus muttered. "She's always been a sweet soul. Even back at Hogwarts. Everyone loved her."

"How the hell did she end up marrying Regulus?" Harry asked.

"She was a Hufflepuff. The Malfoys were outraged. But Regulus managed to talk Lucius into keeping ties with her. After all, that was his sister. But… Regulus took an interest in her. Who wouldn't?" Remus leaned back in his seat, reminiscing out loud for Harry. "And they secretly dated for almost a year before we found out- me, Sirius, Peter, and your father. She ran around in some of our circles. Peter was infatuated with her. We teased him about it all of the time but Sirius would always get mad."

Harry felt a smile come to his face at the thought of his parents' time at the school.

"Regulus and Sophie were still in school, their seventh year when your parents died. Seeing Sirius accused and sent to Askaban. It sent Regulus into a tailspin. They were married after that."

"Yeah, she mentioned that."

"Well, Regulus came to the Order and offered information. We accepted. Not long after, we heard of his death."

Harry furrowed his brows, "But surely Cassiopeia would've stopped him from going, right?"

Remus ran a hand over his face and sighed, "No. He promised her he'd take her… to ease her spirits. But he left in the morning before she awoke. Left her a note. And never came back." He chewed on his lip before continuing, "She didn't find out what happened until Kreature came back and told her."

"And… the dark mark?"

"Ah, yes. Um… She joined when she was dating Regulus. It was to please everyone's families so they could be married. But, she wasn't ever loyal to Voldemort. And Regulus didn't make her attend meetings. He couldn't bare to corrupt her like that."

The boy who lived was finally starting to understand. "And you two…"

Remus chuckled, "We used to be wonderful friends at Hogwarts. Studied together. Never any romantic feelings. Wasn't until after Sirius died that we grew attached to each other."

Cassiopeia appeared in the doorway again, her hair awry this time and wearing pajamas, "-Remus? You promised." 

"And so I did, Sophie." He stood and walked to her, taking her waist in his hands gently. "Good night, Harry. We'll talk in the morning."

Harry could hear the two wandering down the hall as Remus cooed, "Let's get you to bed, sweet woman."

It made the boy's heart happy.

In another world, he thought, they'd be beyond happy.

He flipped the locket over and over in his hand, lost in thought.

Cassiopeia Black. Hmm.

Do you think Regulus defected because of Kreacher or because he stopped believing in blood supremancy? Do you think he might have faked his death?

I’m rubbing my grubby lil hands together.

Let’s just proceed with the understanding that my opinion is based on my interpretation of the books. It is an interpretation which means—who fuckin’ knows if I’m right.

The short answer is— yes, sort of Kreacher, kind of? And to the second question, no.

I think Regulus was an arrogant, proud, and entitled little boy who was overshadowed by his brother. He was weak, and he wanted power. I see him as toadying after Sirius up until Sirius was sorted into Gryffindor. I think Regulus doesn’t cut ties with Sirius until Regulus secures his place in Slytherin (in case he needs Sirius’s protection). After that, he rejects Sirius entirely. Going out of his way to mock Sirius at school and tattle on him at home.

Regulus is also extremely vocal in his prejudice against Muggles and Muggleborns, using the slur Mudblood constantly and parroting his parents’ beliefs. He collects articles about Voldemort. He really looks up to Voldemort who is going to protect their way of life. After all, Muggleborns aren’t really full wizards anyway and they’re degrading and sullying pureblood lines.

But Regulus will always play second fiddle to Sirius. He’s not stupid—he knows his parents love Sirius more, particularly his mother. No one cares what Regulus does—they only care what Sirius does. For ages, he tries to get their attention, but they don’t care. So fine, Regulus can find someone else who will appreciate him. He joins the Death Eaters, but the only reason he’s allowed into the ranks is because of Bellatrix’s influence. Even so, he’s not in the inner circle. At all. And he’s tasked with really shitty things, and he’s serving the Dark Lord—he’s not getting any sort of attention or appreciation at all. He doesn’t have the stomach for torturing or killing—I believe Sirius when he said that Regulus was soft.

The truth is, Regulus knows that to gain any sort of power, he has to make his way into Voldemort’s inner circle. When Voldemort requests the use of a house-elf, he volunteers Kreacher. Regulus is fairly suspicious of Voldemort’s actions and he’s been piecing together the Horcrux thing, so when Kreacher tells him about the cave, Regulus is certain that he’s right about Voldemort. But he’s also exceptionally offended. It’s a fucking insult! Kreacher belongs to the Blacks—doesn’t Voldemort know who the Blacks are? Considering Lucius Malfoy’s utmost fury at losing Dobby and nearly cursing Harry inside the fucking school, I would bet that harming someone’s house-elf is extremely offensive (I mean, not in the way that it should be offensive).

Also, Regulus loves Kreacher. He loves the only person who seems to care for him (even if that person is his fucking slave and bound to serve him…).

But Regulus doesn’t give a damn about Muggles or Muggleborns. Voldemort has insulted Regulus by not including him in the inner circle, and he’s insulted the Black family by treating Kreacher like shit. So he decides to get his revenge by destroying the Horcrux…and we know how well that goes…

The funny thing is, I would bet Voldemort didn’t want Regulus at all—I think he wanted Sirius. If Voldemort had Sirius’s loyalty, Sirius would’ve been his most dangerous Death Eater (or, at least he would have given Bellatrix a run for her money), but instead, Voldemort was stuck with Regulus. And I doubt he hardly noticed when Regulus stopped showing up. Even Bellatrix might be like, “Oh, shit, I forgot about my little cousin. Anyone seen him lately?” (This is mostly because it would be funny.)

Okay, but to your question—did he fake his death? NO! But how fucking hilarious if he did?

“Everyone’s gonna be so sad I’m dead!” and then… no one really notices…

But five years ago, I started writing an AU where he DOES survive and fucks off to Greece to hide with Great Aunt Cassiopeia who demands, in return for her discretion, that he hunt down treasures for her mass collection. And maybe he fucks Charlie Weasley… and somewhere down the line becomes a halfway decent person after learning some fucking humility.

-Harry is sorted into slytherin and always writes home of how Professor black is one of his favorite professors.

-implied Drarry, with draco being close with his aunt andromeda too. Lucius serves time in azkaban and isnt able to set a bad influence.

-Regulus and Harry bond over quidditch and Reg gives him seeker tips.

-Draco is slytherin chaser and has a similar bond with James.

-lily and james divorce after the war but still remain friends.

-James and sirius become aurors, James being head auror.

-Remus still becomes DADA professor in 1993.

-Regulus is the one to help him with the Wolfsbane potion. They end of up bonding and becoming close friends.

-that same year, peter escapes from azkaban and the ministry still sends dementors to hogwarts.

-Sirius is assigned the auror to lead the mission of capturing peter.

-Sirius is able to reconnect with Regulus during his stay at hogwarts.

-it started out with them bonding (i.e, sirius annoying Regulus) through their animagus forms.

-Remus got tired of hearing rumors of a black dog and cat chasing each other around school grounds and forced them to start interacting normally.

-After being invited (Regulus prefers "harrassed") by sirius and harry about spending the holidays with them. Regulus finds himself falling in love with james and they start a relationship.

James Potter loved Lily Evans from the moment he knew what it truly was to love anybody. But, in the end, it didn’t matter that James had declared that he would never love anyone else but Lily. Because he still lost her.

One year on from Halloween 1981, James is struggling to raise Harry alone whilst drowning in an impenetrable dark sea of grief, determined to never love again. Because, in his experience, to love, is to lose.

Luckily, Regulus Black knows quite a lot about loving and losing. And drowning, too, considering the fact that he survived the cave in 1979 and faked his death for two years, popping in to give Sirius the fright of his life on Halloween.

And, consequently, showing up just in time for the events that followed. The shattered remnants of people that the war left behind.

Maybe Regulus will be able to show James that it’s okay to extinguish the first love flame, whilst simultaneously giving him the parenting help he is too ashamed to ask for. And, in return, maybe James will manage to convince Regulus that love isn’t something you earn, something that always has a catch.

Maybe they just needed one another all along, to take that step into the daylight.

Hi, i'm very curious about Sgt. Mary’s Lonely Hearts Club

Hello! Sgt. Mary is another wip I’ve fully outlined but haven’t written much of, but again I’m still excited to get started on it when I have the time :)

It’s set post first Wizarding war, but James survived the attack on Halloween so the fic follows both his grief of losing Lily and struggles with now being a single parent. The whole fic is also a countdown to Sirius’ trial, which Remus and Mary are gathering evidence for to have him released because they know he’s innocent.

However, because James is stressed and grieving, Mary forces him to take a break and go up north to the countryside to relax while they sort out Sirius’ trial. This is where the Jegulus comes in :))))

Regulus also survives the inferi cave, but fakes his death and takes polyjuice to hide his identity. He lives as a muggle, and when he and James run into each other, they start to fall in loooove only James doesn’t realise it’s Regulus. This is by no means a replacement of Lily however, as James’ grief is always at the forefront throughout the fic. Regulus merely helps him begin the healing process, while also taking care of Harry.

The fic cycles through 4 POVs: Regulus, James, Mary and Remus. There’s also wolfstar and some hints towards past Marylily. Voldemort was fully killed on Halloween in this AU, and the locket was his only horcrux.

I plan for it to be a very emotionally heavy but bittersweet fic, and more like four separate stories of love and grief intertwining in the month following the end of the war :)

i will not be posting as frequently. as you may have seen from recent posts, my writing motivation has gone down a lot. this is due to school stress etc but also due to the lack of interaction (i.e. likes but no reblogs or comments). i'm not writing for notes only, but when i spend 45 mins on one fic and everybody just ignores it, it makes me not want to write anymore. the new posting schedule will be every three days instead of every two.

this timing change means that fewer requests will be taken before requests close. i am aware that requests are closed like 95% of the time. i am literally just some guy and i have limits. i cannot write all of the time.

REGULUS'S UNIVERSES

VERSE: Ghost

The moment Regulus had decided to go after Lord Voldemort’s Horcrux so he could destroy it, he knew he was going to die and he was fine by it because he hoped it meant the downfall of the dark lord. Did he even care if his family knew what happened to him? No, not at all because it kept them safe. And plus it wasn’t like some of them would truly care, especially his brother, who hated him. But at least he would have died a hero, proving his brother wrong about him never going to be a hero. What Regulus didn’t expect was to be waking up some time later, roaming the familiar halls of a place he once knew well. Except this time, he wasn’t roaming them alive. No, he was roaming them as a ghost and he had no clue why but he was planning on making the most of it til he figured out how to get to the paradise of the afterlife.

VERSE: Survival

What Regulus didn’t expect was to be waking up some time later, in a bed and room he almost didn’t recognize. Confused and frightened, he began panicking until he was met with someone rushing in to calm him down. And once he was calmed down, they explained to him everything they knew. Turns out Kreacher disobeyed his direct order and saved him at the last minute, which he didn’t know if he was mad, disappointed, or grateful for it. All he knew was that he was scared about what was going to happen when the dark lord found out what he had done, and that now he needed to figure out where to go from where he currently was in his life. After all, he didn't want to mess up his second chance.

VERSE: Dead By Daylight

By 1979, Regulus had begun to have doubts about serving as a Death Eater, but was reluctant to act against the Death Eaters and Voldemort. One day, Voldemort asked Regulus for the use of his house-elf, Kreacher and Regulus eagerly accepted as he wanted to please his master. Voldemort used Kreacher to test the defenses around his locket Horcrux, leaving him to die afterwards. Kreacher was able to escape using house-elf magic and told Regulus of what had happened. Regulus worked out that the locket was a Horcrux and was the reason behind Voldemort's immortality. This was the deciding factor in Regulus's defection. He created a duplicate of the locket and placed a note inside for Voldemort to find, expecting him to check on the Horcrux in the future, and then ordered Kreacher to take him to where the real locket was hidden. Kreacher guided Regulus past the cave's defenses. At the island with the basin of potion containing the locket, Regulus ordered Kreacher to take the locket once the potion was gone and replace it with the fake one, then escape without him and find a way to destroy the Horcrux. Regulus drank the potion himself, and when he tried to get water from the lake to quench his thirst, he was dragged to his death by the Inferi. The last thing Regulus remembered was a swirl of black mist filling his eyes as he was dragged through thick black fog before he awakened in a strange place that was unfamiliar. 

Apparition: Can magically teleport to or from a place. Has a 90 seconds recharge limit. Magic: Can cast random spells after filling up the perk by doing actions such as repairing, healing, cleansing Switcheroo: Once per trial, Regulus and Nyxia can switch places, giving them an extra life.

VERSE: Titanic

After an emotional outburst of magic occurred during one last attempt to fight for survival, Regulus ended up casting an unknown spell that landed him in the past. And not just anywhere in the past but on the RMS Titanic, freaked out and confused would have been an understatement on how he felt but he knew one thing for sure, he must navigate his way through disaster as he tries to find his way home to his own time.

BOY DO I EVER!

I'm going to ramble a lot, so most of this is going under a cut. And if anyone wants to adopt this, pleeeeeeeeeeeeease do. It's up for grabs for anyone and everyone.

The revelation about Harry's parentage is a surprise to everyone--including Sirius.

James's marriage to Lily was a sham and he never stopped being with Regulus. Lily was in on it.

Not even Dumbledore knew, so Harry went to the Dursleys for nothing.

Sirius immediately points out that without the blood protection, there's no reason for Harry to keep returning to those awful people.

Harry moves into Number Twelve that summer (also Sirius never dies shhh)

Kreacher's the only one who was in on the secret, and Regulus swore him to secrecy. It turns out that, as Regulus's son, Harry is now Kreacher's master, and is able to order the elf to tell him the whole story.

Harry looks like Lily because of *waves hand* house elf magic or something, idk, and asks Kreacher to lift the spell. Kreacher does, and it's too much for Harry. He can't handle looking at a face he doesn't recognize, and orders Kreacher to change him back, which the house elf does.

Harry inherited Sirius's and Regulus's grey eyes.

I headcanon that Regulus's "death" was in late '79, which is also about the time Harry would have been conceived. Once he survived his ordeal at the cave, Kreacher brought him back to Number Twelve, where Regulus laid low until Harry was born and transferred to Lily and James.

I think James and Regulus would have kept in contact through secret letters, even though they weren't supposed to because it could have compromised them. Harry finds a stash of these letters in Regulus's room at Number Twelve. James wrote Regulus long letters about Harry's development, and sent him pictures, and told Regulus how much he loved him, and wrote about what they were going to do once the war was over and they could be a family again.

I can't decide if Regulus died a few months after Harry was born, b/c his ordeal with the Inferi plus the pregnancy was too much for his body, or if he lived long enough to learn about James's death and ended up dying soon after that.

Idk where Walburga is. Maybe she dies in the late '70s along with her husband. Or maybe it's her body that gets transformed into Regulus's to fake his death, and he takes up residence in Number Twelve and pretends to be Walburga until he ultimately dies.

I don't think James and Regulus saw each other again after Harry was born.

Harry's gotten so used to calling Sirius "Sirius" that it's weird to think of him as Uncle Sirius, but he does start calling him "Uncle Padfoot." Sirius definitely sheds some tears at that.

He's heir by blood to the house of Black and the house of Potter.

Harry finds a box in Regulus's room of the things Regulus was collecting to give to him once they could be reunited again, which of course never happened.

Harry changes his surname to Potter-Black.

That's all I've got for now. Believe me, I think about this AU of mine constantly, but I also know I'm unlikely to pick it up again and I'd love to see others take a crack at it!

i have a lot of wips at any given time, so this is just what i’m most likely to be working on:

drafting bloodfinch (original story): secondary world fantasy with a side of horror. ever since finch can remember, she’s been raised in the palace for a single purpose: to be ritually sacrificed after 20 years of preparation so that her death can strengthen the royal family. it’s a great honor and a duty that only finch can fulfill. but she’s entering her last year of preparation, and she’s horrified to realize that actually, she doesn’t want to die.

sporadic posting to the dark lord (HP fic): canon-divergent and regulus black-centric. aren’t you tired of regulus becoming a death eater and sacrificing himself to get one (1) horcrux? don’t you want him to build a third side in the war between voldemort and dumbledore and go after both of them with the power of love dark arts? wouldn’t it be fun if he did this while also juggling quidditch, high society, and preparing for OWL exams? read the series here!

Scars: There are scars on the palms of his hands from a time where he went searching through the black library and was cursed with painful blistering boils. Due to his disobedience, (as he was not allowed to touch the books) he was forced to heal naturally leaving behind the discoloration which can mostly be ignored. Besides that, he is mostly unblemished so that he can be married off easily.

Wand: Cypress wood, dragon heart core, 8½, Supple flexibility

Boggart: Himself, he’s afraid of losing himself within the persona he created for the outside world, he already fears that he lost himself and he’s not sure just who he really is anymore. The boggart looks exactly like him there is no differences in appearance. It is prone to physical violence, always attempting to kill Regulus. While this is happening, the boggart exclaims that the real Regulus is a, "fake" swearing that it is the real Regulus. This is suppose to represent Regulus' fear that if he was replaced by something else no one would notice that it wasn't him. His fear of being so easily replaced with none the wiser of it happening, which is then proven when in the class the students and professor shoot off the Riddikulus spell at the real Regulus and not the boggart.

Blood status: Pureblood

Personality: Regulus is not the nicest of people, (not that others would be aware as half of the not so nice things he keeps silent about) he's judgmental to an extent of others with a sharp tounge to boot. He's prideful and holds predigest against Muggle-borns (werewolves and many others). He doesn’t understand them and half the stuff he finds out about them are either lies from other purebloods or from the few stories Sirius tells him. When he was younger he held a curiosity of muggles and creatures but learned quickly to hide those types of thoughts.

Skills: information gathering, emotional constipation, revenge tactics, strategist

Residence: Hogwarts, 12 Grimmauld place, verse dependent.

My Regulus’ background is attached too @itswasteland Sirius’ background. ie, the history of the Ancient house of Black. It can be read about here

Regulus' relationship with his father, while not as volatile as Sirius' relationship with their mother, is still rocky. He was taunted, abused for his more passive way of living and for not taking charge or being a leader. (aka fitting one of the forms of the toxic masculinity role of what a ‘true man’ should be) Regulus' father would call him a girl, or outright say it would've been better if he was born a girl, for being far too soft-spoken to be a man.

This leads to the tw of incest given the fact that if Regulus was born a girl there was a high chance of him being married off to Sirius in hopes of creating the- "purest" Black. This is the fantasy that Regulus' father has, though there is no acting upon it for obvious reasons. (My headcanon of magic can do wonderful things but in pureblood families like this I see them def being transphobic so even though it's possible they'd never use that magic on Regulus.)

Notes:

Once Sirius ran away from home and to the Potters, Regulus was left alone, his only support system swiftly pulled from under him. Even if he wanted to leave Regulus was unable fully knowing that they would come after him. He was terrified, having never been prepared for any of the responsibilities placed on his shoulders. This is why it was easy for his Mother to step in and puppet him from the shadows as this is truly what she had wanted all along. To be the master of the Black family, which is why she had married the more weak-minded Orin in hopes of taking control. Though unlike Orin, Regulus was far more strong minded, she was only able to control him due to his lack of knowledge of how to activly lead the Black family. 

At the age of sixteen, he was marked by Voldemort as punishment for his brothers' disobedience and by his parent's wishes. Noticing Regulus squeamishness of battle Voldomort thought of a better use for Regulus. Being put in charge of battle plans, Regulus was made a general who moved chess pieces behind the scenes. It made fighting in this war far easier for him, as it was easy to feel less guilty over what he was doing when he wasn’t the one making the killing blow. He was a true strategist with his keen mind they may have won the war- that was until he was force to see the truth of just what passively following orders, hiding in the shadows and his belief did to others.

It left him confused more than not, who was Regulus really? What did he truly believe in? His greatest fear became true, in the end, when he looked into the mirror he didn’t know who he was anymore. He saw what his mother wanted, what the other pureblooded families wanted from him, all their expectations resting heavily onto him. But what did he want to do again before he became this? How was he going to survive this? What were his true ambitions? What did he really want?

He couldn’t answer that- until he found out just what lengths Voldemort went too, to stay alive. It was horrendous, it was ugly, and having Kreacher involved only made him want to retch. He was in too deep but that didn’t mean he couldn’t still do what he believed was right.

And so Regulus, freshly turned seventeen made his way into a cave by the seaside with a fake locket and a message-

That Voldemort wasn’t as untouchable as everyone believed him to be.

VERSES

School Year verse: Regulus is a Slytherin student, quidditch seeker and resident of Grimmauld Place that went to Hogwarts from 1972 until his death in 1979.

Gryffindor Verse: The hat, unaccepting of Regulus pleads to be sent to Slytherin, ends up in Gryffindor just like his brother creating great strife at home. Though Regulus has a better time acting like a secret Slytherin and a turn-coat to keep his parents anger at bay.

Ghost Verse: Regulus died in the cave just like in canon but instead of his soul traversing into the light it stays behind and haunts the living. He travels wherever he pleases but mostly stays around Hogwarts and his old home. May from time to time visit people, (Sirius) and check up on how they’re doing.

Time Travel Verse: Regulus touched something he wasn’t supposed too when he was exploring the attic of his ancestral home with Kreacher. Said object sends him careening through time laying waste to the plans he had set for himself. (Story of his time travel is prone to change depending what me and the person I'm writing with wish to come up with)

CHARACTER DETAILS:

NAME: Regulus Black going by Nilam a shortening of Alnilam which is a star on Orion’s Belt and means “belt of pearls”. She tries not to use any last name but uses Deuil, the French word for mourning because it makes her think of black clothing and amuses her.

GENDER, PRONOUNS, and SEXUALITY:

Regulus Black would not know how to have sex if someone took her hand, stripped her of clothes, and gave her an extensive, hands on, tutorial. It's not that she hasn't thought about sex, or that she wouldn't enjoy it. It's more that that she went from angry and angsty Hogwarts kid straight to Voldemort's inner circle. Then she participated in some murdering, uncovered some very uncouth dark magic practices, and then purposefully poisoned herself in a cave.

She's been busy and, really, this is her very first time she's ever had the chance to be on her own and try to figure out what she likes. In addition to that, there's been this pervasive understanding that Regulus Black was a boy. Along with stealing back some time (sort of), Regulus has really stolen back her own identity after her whole life time of pretending to be another gender. Unfortunately the identity she stole back didn't come with a tutorial or a new personality. At least, so far, her mother doesn't know but that might be because she faked her own death.

Oh, and if found out most of her family will want to kill her and the other part of the family, well, can she even trust them? 

Details, really. Stupid, unimportant, details. Totally doesn’t impact her self perception at all.

Strengths--

Expansive Thinking:

It’s not so much cunning or perception or even intelligence that Regulus Black has. Her OWLs were okay—if not spectacular. Her ability to socialize… somewhat less so than other family members. But what she lacks in social and book learning she well makes up for in being able to piece together information. Sure, Regulus might have never been able to sit down and regurgitate a chapter of a book—but she could take that same information and connect it to other chapters in other books and understand how it works. The same concept is applied outside of learning and into social situations—a perception on who-is-interested-in-whom (which got her into trouble more than once at Hogwarts when he blurted it out in the common room) or just what someone else is getting up to. Regulus doesn’t require obvious information—just enough clues that, over time, fit together like a puzzle.

Cunning it's not just a descriptor for her house: Regulus might not be the most conniving social mover, but that doesn't mean she hasn't sniffed out ways to manipulate all on her own. Before faking her own death, she became quite good at blending into the background, looking softer and more malleable than she was (although, to be fair, she was always a little more malleable than Regulus would have wanted to admit), and collecting information without being thought of as, well, anything worth worrying about. Post-faking-her-death, well, she's got to survive somehow… sure she might have it  slightly easier (everyone's looking for a boy, after all, if they are looking for anyone…) but that doesn't mean she isn't striving, and mostly succeeding, to keep herself and what she knows safe. Regulus Black might feel like she’s been dealt a shit hand—but she’s been doing okay with it so far and that’s all down to being a cunning little asshole.

Weaknesses--

Anxious it's not mess that makes Regulus anxious: its life. Regulus as always been an unsettled, introverted, pureblood who  doesn't care for loud noises (shouting is the worst), mudbloods, werewolves or mess. Counting helps, rubbing the inside of her robes between her fingers helps. Not being around people helps. Really, all of this would be a dead giveaway to her figuring out Voldemort or Death Eater plans but… its constant. It's been a part of Regulus since, perhaps, the day she was born--or, if not then, then certainly by the time she landed at Hogwarts. In fact, she's even learned how to use it to her advantage to some degree--to throw someone off  or mislead them...but that doesn't really help when an argument breaks out and all she wants to do is cover her ears and shout stop stop stop.

Unstable so all the cunning and crafty thinking couldn't save Regulus from one stupid decision: drinking poison. If you asked her, even, she was perfectly fine before she went into a cave and drank a mysterious dark potion… but would anyone stable really think that was the best course of action? Into a cave. Alone. (Does a a house elf even count?) Knowing it was set up by one of the darkest wizards of her time who was fracturing his soul for immortality. No, Regulus Black reached the point of 'unstable' long before that poison touched her lips. It's even possible that the poison she drank has nothing to do with her difficulties now. Sometimes her hands  go numb and she drops things, other times she misses a little time...well, she thinks, she didn’t need that hour anyway! Thoughts get a bit out of order--though they seem perfectly acceptable right then. This should concern Regulus more than it does but she's survived this long, hasn't she?

BRIEF OVERVIEW OF FAMILY:

Walburga : Regulus likes to say that Sirius is more like their mother but, honestly, she's not so sure about that now (though she will be if she ever argues with Sirius again). Loud, dramatic, and demanding Regulus tried her best to stay in Walburga's good graces more often than not. 

Sirius : older brother, arsehole, Regulus simultaneously adores and loathes her older brother. The adoration came from when they were little, thick as thieves, and nothing could break them apart… until Hogwarts did, until Sirius left for good, until the war. There's a lot that Regulus has never told Sirius and likely a lot Sirius has never told Regulus--and Regulus isn't sure that's a bad thing.

Narcissa : honestly, if Regulus could have family related #goals Narcissa would probably be a good paradigm to aspire to… unfortunately, her poise and social management are so far out of her skillset the idea of attaining those skills is pretty laughable. 

Bellatrix : another family member Regulus delights in ascribing similar personality traits to Sirius. Bellatrix was instrumental in getting Regulus involved with the Death Eater's which was thrilling at sixteen and horrific by  eighteen.

Andromeda : Who? Even after having run away herself, Regulus doesn't  know what to  think about   Andromeda. Andromeda ran away for the wrong reasons, right?

It would be foolish to imply that Regulus Black is nothing like her family: Regulus Black is everything like her family. Slightly neurotic, settled in her own perception of right-and-wrong and superiority… all of this could be describing her mother, some of her extended family, and even her brother (well, neurotic in a different way, surely). The major difference between Regulus Black and Sirius Black is simple: Sirius was gifted a direct personality and Regulus a sponge. One might even call her sensitive—at least if they had met her at five and not fifteen. Instead of struggling against the tide of emotions and shouting in her home, Regulus absorbed it all. Instead of fighting, Regulus aquesessed: they knew better, after all. If she just did everything right maybe things would turn out okay?

Love might not ever be something said but perhaps there was that in the family, too. The language was just different and Sirius had a mistranslation. Regulus was better than that.

OCCUPATION: 

Regulus : family heir, do you think  she was allowed any "hobby" (much less job) other than Death Eater? After leaving the family "nest", so to speak, Regulus looked for ...well, it wasn't so much something to do as something to cover her weird erratic behavior. That something ended up being divination. She has an ad that runs in the paper once a week on different editions that reads: Nilam Deuil. Smoke and Ink scrying by Owl or Toad Appointment Only.

ROLE WITHIN THE ORDER/THOUGHTS ABOUT THE ORDER: 

Regulus is fairly certain they are all going to die--herself most certainly included in that. Granted,  she was expecting to die about two months earlier and that hasn't happened yet. Generally, Regulus has gone from one vigilante group to another and while the people are different  she finds a strange sort of comfort in the cycle of chatter and arguments  she hears. It's … the same? different but the same. In addition to that there’s even some comfort in understanding that they are all going to die--after all, if that's the case, what does any of this matter anyway?

Purpose: Regulus is providing information for sanctuary. Part of that sanctuary agreement is that she can present as the gender she is and not to be outed to anyone. She wanted some measure of freedom (thus new face and faked death) and protection (thus aligning herself with the Order). Her information is along the lines of organization structure, horcruxes, and methodology, among other aspects.

Role: Externally Regulus presents as a new order receuit named Nilam Deuil. A few upper level order members (Dumbledore, Kingsley, Moody, possibly others in play) know Nilam is Regulus while most simply know her as low level assistance in London. Other inner circle members may know that there is some sort of informant that has come forward and is involved in closed door meetings, however they do not know it's Regulus. In this way the Order helps protect Regulus but also holds the leash keeping her tethered to the conflict.

SURVIVAL: 

Regulus should be dead. Regulus is suicidal as a general rule (not that she’d admit to it) and that is no better displayed than in her visit to a cave filled with inferi and poison. However…  she ...didn't die.  she didn't die. Instead,  she was able to get in contact with Dumbledor. In addition to that, prior to her decision to leave the Death Eaters (by death or otherwise) Regulus survived based on her dueling skill and wits--although some would question the latter. She’s only now trying to get into the swing of things of moving around a lot or getting comfortable with a bunch of mudbloods and halfbreeds: she’d rather move around a lot.

RELATIONSHIPS: 

Mary MacDonald she and Regulus only overlapped in a few classes thanks to her being a different house, but  she certainly knows about her -- heard all about her as Mulciber bragged endlessly of that one time  she "put that mudblood" in her place. Regulus got used to gritting her teeth in a smile and nodding along as though  she were oh-so-impressed...but the woman she met didn't seem to have been put in any place and now Mulciber is dead. Maybe there's more to this Mudblood than meets the eye. Maybe there's a reason  she should avoid her -- and not just because  she doesn't want to be tripped-up and found out through a accidental reference to something she should have no idea about.

Sirius Black is the one person who will, at some point, be told who she  is and where she's hiding. Regulus knows the only control she has over that is to spill the beans herself..but should she? Or should she wait and see when Dumbledor or one of the  other  upper Order Member's out her? If she waits she might die before she ever has to deal with whatever fallout that will bring. 

OOC EXPLORATION:

SHIPS/ANTI-SHIPS: Regulus / Chemistry. Really, Regulus is more asexual then anything.

WHAT PRIVILEGES AND BIASES DOES YOUR CHARACTER HAVE?  Regulus : was born into every ounce of privilege and is having a hard time managing the fact she now lives as though she has none of them. Purebloods are obviously better than everyone else --except now it's everyone else that is inadvertently keeping her alive. In addition to that, Regulus also had the privilege of being tutored in dueling and additional educational opportunities. She speaks French and passable German in addition to English and… plays the harpsichord.

EXTRA FOR NON-BIO CHARACTERS:

PAST: 

Regulus Black was never supposed to be the heir of the Black family. Sirius was louder, a natural at many things, and just almost the ideal Heir. Almost because he rebelled a bit too much and Regulus never quite understood why. It would have been so much easier if Sirius had just… relaxed. Family was important and for all that Sirius loved them, his friends were not family. While Sirius was learning the importance of close friends (and found family) Regulus was being immersed in the family mindset. She was never one to question too hard and certainly not socially skilled enough to find better contacts. It was almost natural, certainly half expected, that her counter rebellion to her brother was joining the Death Eaters. What wasn't expected was that  she eventually, slowly but decisively, realized that her 'go along and everything is fine' way of being was the worst choice she could have made. 

PRESENT: 

Regulus Black faked “his” own death. What else was she supposed to do, really? If she left she’d just be murdered and have never had the opportunity to live as herself. Granted, she expects this ‘opportunity’ to sell what she knows to the Order and live “freely” to evaporate shortly but something is better than nothing. It’s just too damn bad that drinking poison has given her some adverse effects and pretending to be someone she’s not takes social skills she’s never honed. At least when she looks in the mirror she feels like herself for the first time...or would if her polyjuice didn't round out her face so much. For Regulus, it’s all about the details and racing a self-made clock before she fucks up enough that everyone will realize: surprise! That weird new girl is a murderous Death Eater who had enough information to buy herself a new life.

Tbh, I think Regulus meant to die in the cave. In his letter to the Dark Lord he states that he'll be long dead before the fake locket is found, so I think it was his intention to get dragged under. Kreacher says that Regulus was disturbed in the mind, so as awful as it might have been, it could be that he /wanted/ to die. Or at the very least, thought death preferable over survival and probably putting his family in danger (because the tapestry would know he's alive and they would find him)

I think he knew there was a very high chance that he'd die in that cave and that he wouldn't be able to return to his old life once the locket was destroyed.

I still want to know how he found out about that Horcrux though.
